When is the best time to fish in Key West?
This site has no source for a best month, so it does not name one. One of the 8 operators scanned publishes a species calendar — tarpon from March, bonefish and permit from mid-February, dolphin from April, sailfish and tuna December through March. It is quoted below with their name on it. The other six publish nothing of the kind.
Why does this page not have a twelve-month calendar?
Every competing Key West site has one. They are confident and pretty, and most of them cite nothing.
We looked for the source. Of the 8 operators scanned on 7 September 2026, one publishes a species calendar. Six do not.
Building twelve months out of that means inventing the gaps. And a fabricated month reads exactly like a researched one. That is the whole problem. So this page publishes the evidence that exists. It says whose it is.
What one operator publishes

The source contradicts itself, and that is worth seeing
The same page gives tarpon two different windows. One says March through July, peaking in May and June. The other says March through November. Both are on it.
Both are in the table. Neither is marked correct, because there is no basis on which to choose.
This is not a criticism of that operator. It is what published fishing calendars are actually like underneath, including the confident ones with no contradiction visible because they only printed the number once.
What to ask instead
Ask the operator what is running the week you arrive. They are on the water. This page is not.
Then ask what they would book if they were you, given those dates. A good one will tell you when your dates suit a different fishery than the one you called about — and that answer is worth more than any calendar.

Is there a bad time to fish Key West?
Nothing in the material this site has read supports calling any month bad. The species mix shifts through the year rather than switching off — the December-to-March window that one operator gives for sailfish and tuna is the same window others would call winter. What you should ask an operator is what is running the week you are coming, because they are on the water and this page is not.

What about closed seasons?
Closures are a different thing from runs, and they matter more to your day. Some species close for part of the year and reopen, and the dates are re-set annually and differ between state and federal water. This site publishes none of them. Check FWC before you book, and ask the operator what is open the week you are coming.
